Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan has always made headlines be it for his brash behaviour or for his merciful deeds. The superstar who has a golden heart has proved it yet again by purchasing 25 computers for kids residing in an NGO in Bandra on hearing that they were keen to learn computers but did not have adequate facilities.

The superstar in his latest philanthropic deeds donated 25 computers to the Saint Catherine's Home in Bandra. The institution helps the cause of young children by providing them with free education and shelter.

Salman has been making it a point to visit Saint Catherine's Home twice a month, where he interacts and plays with the children. On one of his visits he learnt that the children were keen to learn computers but the institution didn't have enough of them for everyone to work on. This is when Salman did the needful.

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif may be tight-lipped about their relationship status, but they have been voted the hottest couple of the decade in a poll by MSN India that also declared superstar Shah Rukh Khan the actor of the decade.

The two have beaten the likes of Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai, Bipasha Basu-John Abraham and Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor.

MSN India had conducted an online poll and invited its readers to vote for their favourite Bollywood actors under various categories as part of their Decade Special for Bollywood.

Of the 38,648 readers who responded for ‘Hottest couple of the Decade’ category, 36 percent opined that Salman and Katrina made for a greater couple than Abhishek-Aishwarya who got 27 percent votes, followed by Bipasha and John with 13 percent votes while Kareena and Saif got only six percent votes.

Katrina also topped the ‘Hottest Body of the Decade’ poll with 33 percent votes and proved that her curves are more attractive than Bipasha, who got 13 percent votes, Aishwarya Rai Bachcan (10 percent) and Priyanka Chopra (9 percent).

For the ‘Actor of the Decade’ poll, Shah Rukh topped with 29 percent votes followed by Aamir Khan with 26 percent and Amitabh Bachchan with 16 percent votes.

Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Aag’ was voted ‘Flop of the Decade’ and it won hands down with 48 percent votes followed by ‘Drona’, ‘Love Story 2050′ and ‘Tashan’.

Salman Khan is one person specially known for his generous heart. Interestingly, the actor also supports the person who tries hard but fails to score good marks.

Such people might not have anyone to still encourage them everytime but Salman asks them to keep a cool attitude and work for future.

Salman says, “The guys who didn’t get good marks this year, for them there is next year and life, no stress boss, enjoy the grind. I have gone through it too.”

Eros International's VEER, a love story set in the historical context of the British rule in India has resulted in modern day British-Indian collaboration, making VEER the first movie in India to have an audio-description (AD) track in Hindi on its DVD. The aim is to ensure that no fan of Salman Khan remains untouched by the charms of this romantic action movie.

UK-based Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) worked with Eros International to achieve this milestone after its research among blind or partially sighted people of Asian origin in the UK and India found that over 70 per cent of respondents were more likely to watch Bollywood films if AD in Hindi was provided.

AD is as important to blind and partially sighted people as subtitles are to those with hearing impairments. It is almost like an observer narrating a story to the viewer, an additional commentary that fits between passages of dialogue to describe action sequences, body language, costume and scenery - allowing the viewer to understand exactly what is happening on screen.

Pranab Kapadia, Head of International distribution at Eros International says: "We are extremely excited to join hands with RNIB and present the first of its kind film DVD with the epic VEER having Audio Description for the blind or partially sighted fans of Indian cinema. We strongly believe in our social responsibility and this is our humble attempt in initiating a step that we believe will benefit consumers largely".

Stephen King, RNIB Director of International Affairs says: "RNIB has worked with the Bollywood industry to bring the benefits of audio description to new audiences. The decision by Eros to include audio description on its DVD release is momentous, transforming the experience of blind and partially sighted Bollywood fans watching films at home, not just in the UK but internationally. Our research tells us that fans want AD on Bollywood films and RNIB hopes that other distributors will follow the lead of Eros."

Film fan, Naseem Rehman, from Coventry says: "I love Bollywood films, but I don't often go to the cinema because I find it difficult to follow all the action on screen. I've also got three young children and having audio description on DVDs that I can enjoy at home with my boys will be fantastic. I'll be able to watch with them and know what they are seeing too, without needing someone to explain the action to me."

VEER from Eros international is directed by Anil Sharma and produced by Vijay Galani movies. The film stars Salman Khan, Zarine Khan, Sohail Khan and Liza Lazarus. The DVD will be available world wide from March 8, 2010 and it will carry a Hindi audio description track. The AD track has been produced at Red Bee Media Limited which has offices in UK, Australia, France, Spain and Germany.

Eros International, international distributor of Bollywood films, is also exploring the possibility of making DVDs for ever green classics such as SHOLAY, WAQT and DEVDAS available to blind and partially sighted audiences across the world.

RNIB's campaign for AD has resulted in several major distributors of Hollywood films releasing their DVDs with an AD track in the UK. Now, for the first time, the DVD of a Bollywood film with an AD track in Hindi will be made available worldwide.

VEER DVD hits stores on 24th April 2010.

Whether or not his films are hits, Salman Khan is one actor who has never had a dearth of fans.

And despite the great fluctuations in his career graph, Sallu does not seem to be in the mood to vacate his place any time soon.

“There are a lot of superstars who have had their stardoms and then they move out. Then somebody else comes. But right now we are sitting on the chair and holding it till some good enough guy comes in and takes it over. Till the time your fans don’t move from you to somebody else, why would you leave the chair!” asks Salman.

However, he has a different definition of stardom. “Everyone sees a little bit of me in them. They feel they can emulate something from me - be it dancing, acting or body.

That’s what makes fans feel that the star is like their friend and a common man who has been given an opportunity to be on screen,” he explains. Well, that’s what is called ‘being Salman’.

The young protagonist of his film ‘Thanks Maa’ is a Salman Khan fan and the movie has several posters of the actor as well. Now director Irfan Kamal is very keen that Salman watch his film as he is so important to the theme.

‘In fact Salman plays a very important role in the film… Shams Patel’s character is a big fan and we see posters of Salman’s films like ‘Tere Naam’ and ‘Saawariya’ throughout the film. Considering how important Salman is to the theme, I badly wanted to show my film to him. But he is too busy,’ said Irfan.

Irfan struggled for more than three years to put together his story of a street kid’s search for an infant’s mother. And his young lead actor won the best child artist National Award for his performance in ‘Thanks Maa’.

‘When I wrote ‘Thanks Maa’, the first person I narrated it to was Salman. He was very excited about the film then. I don’t know what happened after that. Salman’s father Salim Khan Saab has seen the film. But not Salman,’ the director said.

Shams, the lead actor, is a fan of the star in real life and he too wants Salman to watch his film.

‘I play Salman’s fan in the film and I’m his biggest fan in real life. I really want him to watch the film,’ Shams said.

Considering Irfan is the son of legendary choreographer Master Kamal, who made glam queens of the 1960s and 70s dance to his tunes, the least he expected was the bigwigs of the industry to take note of the film.

Trying not to sound bitter Irfan said: ‘I’ve knocked on every A-lister’s door in our industry. Let alone help my small film in reaching out to the audience no one has even agreed to see my film except Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar and David Dhawan.

‘But it’s ok. I’m not bitter. Of course my father was a very important part of this film industry. But why should I be granted any favours because of my father? I want my film to be judged on its own merits. But for that to happen people have to watch the film,’ he added.

That Salman Khan is a fitness freak is a known fact. Spending hours in the gym and often working out on his sets is not enough for this hot Khan. Many a times the actor will take to cycling in the middle of the night to keep his fitness level high.

And now Sallu is asking you to join him. Backed by his Being Human Foundation, Salman Khan is now asking people all over the world to join him in India's first ever international cycling event Mumbai Cyclothon.

“The Tour De Mumbai will be held at Bandra Reclamation on Sunday, 21st February. The whole reason Salman agreed to join this event is to promote the practice of cycling in the city. He wants everyone to get healthy and this is his way of contributing,” says a close friend of the actor, “Salman is inviting all his fans – whether u are a cyclist or not!”

The ride will have participants from all walks of life including amateur cyclists, cycling enthusiasts, working professionals, house wives and school children. The maximum distance covered will be 24 kms. But we don’t think that will deter our superstar who is used to cycling long distances.

The actor is known for often taking the cycling route to get to his sets at Film City in Goregaon from his home in Bandra. With his bodyguards following in his car, the actor makes his journey often stopping to talk to his fans or sign autographs!

India’s first blind band Udaan which launched its first album ‘Udaan Instrumental’ last year, courtesy Bollywood superstar Salman Khan credits their success to him.

Director of the band Deepak Soni says, “I think whatever we are today is only because of Salman bhai. Had Salman bhai not recommended us to T-Series we would not have been able to cut our album. Not only this, after the release of the album, we got more opportunities to perform at bigger platform and with bigger singers.”

Further he adds, “I think for us he is an angel from heaven and I don’t think I need to talk about his generosity which everyone knows.”

Well this is not the first time that Salman has lend a helping hand to anyone, but this side of his personality has always enhanced his fan following.

Salman Khan is recently being impressed with another Khan not his rivals but Mudassar Khan.

Salman saw this 25-year-old man performing with his troupe ‘Sharp Shooters’ at a local Mumbai mall. And Salman was completely bowled over his fantastic movies.

Mudassar said in a tabloid chat, “Salman sir liked my work so much that he asked me to choreograph his dance for an awards night.”

Besides, the actor has also roped him for few songs in his upcoming flick Dabanng.

Salman Khan’s bodyguard, Shera, is using the star to his advantage. Salman’s female fans are misled and made to believe that in order to meet Salman; they need to be nice to Shera.

Salman seems to be unaware about this at present but Shera thinks he is a bigger star than Salman. Earlier, Shera had been sacked for the same reason. We hope the actor realizes that Shera’s doing this, lest his innocent fan girls get deceived.

Surat, Jan 28: A youngster has been arrested for posing as Salman Khan and decieving the Bollywood hero's fans into giving donations through a fake website.

Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) officials, who netted the culprit identified as Intakhawab Alam, said that he used to reply to fans and keep the website updated.

Alam was arrested on Tuesday, Jan 26 from Rander.

"To make his website look realistic, he created a separate web-page 'I love my fans' and 'This is my mobile number'. He even talked with his fans on phone," ATS member G L Singhal said.

Alam, who created a website under the name of Salman Khan, used to ask the fans to comment and write opinions on the articles posted on the site.

Salman Khan’s presence at Hyderabad’s theatre caused stampede as 100s of his fans rushed to the venue just to take a sight of Salman.

Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan came for the press conference for his forthcoming film ‘Veer‘ at IMAX theatre. Even though the press conference went well but disorder proceeded when crowd outside got aware of Salman’s presence.

As there was Saturday, so several people were there in the cinema hall & also they came to see OB vans of various TV channels, so they got to know that their superstar Salman has come to their town.

The mass of people who were waiting outside the press conference’s venue, they The crowd waited outside the venue of the press conference on the second floor of the attempted to charge towards the actors when their hero Salman Khan came out of the conference & he waved back in response to his fans.

High-pitched fans pushed each other to have a sight of the actors & they all got unmanageable.

For 33-year-old Abdul Kadar, who is having down syndrome, meeting Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan is his biggest dream and for that he has been taking part in Mumbai Marathon for last five years.

Whenever one meets Kadar, the very first thing he asks, do you know Salman Khan and if the answer is affirmative then he pleads him to arrange for a meeting with the actor.

When former miss India-turned-actress Gul Panag met Kadar yesterday, he urged her to ask Salman to join him for January 17 Marathon.

Gul has been an ardent supporter of Shraddha Charitable Trust, a city-based NGO which mainly focuses on rehabilitation and training programmes for young adults with autism.

"I'm very excited for Marathon and this time as Gul has promised me she will speak to Salman and ask him to join us for the dream run.

He launched the blog on his father Salim Khan’s birthday and then he launched a ‘Hunt for Veer’ on his own birthday”. Says Salman himself “You have often heard my stories now I want to know yours. There is a ‘Veer’ in each one of us. I will personallypick up the stories that I like and I’m waiting to meet these real life veers”.

Confirms the source, “People simply have to go to Salman’s blog and write down their real life bravery stories. Salman bhai himself will read through these stories and select five Veers. All of whom he will then meet personally”. Salman Khan who is famously known in the industry for his generosity decided on his birthday- the Dec27 to go on a worldwide search for people who deserve to be recognized.

In what’s touted to be his best performance till date Salman Khan will be seen playing a warrior in his period film Veer-which is a legend of heroism and bravery of a Pindari soldier. It’s the untold saga of a freedom fighter, who fought for social justice and independence. Eros International and Vijay Galani’s Veer- Bollywood’s biggest epic film till date is all set to release on January 22, 2010.

Trust Salman Khan to do the unthinkable. While most actors would think twice before packing up an important shooting schedule to please a cluster of clamouring kids, Salman did not hesitate to do just that.

On Tuesday, Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan abandoned his patchwork shooting for his period film Veer at the Khans’s farmhouse in Panvel and rushed to Mumbai to entertain kids at a children’s event.

On Tuesday late evening, while in the middle of the shoot, Salman received a call. When he hung up, he called for his car and informed the crew that he had to leave immediately. Fearing a family crisis, unit members rushed to his side only to be told that he needed to drive back from Panvel to a gymkhana in Mumbai to entertain a large number of kids.

A charitable organisation had organised a children’s nite at the gymkhana. The kids had been constantly asking for an appearance by their favourite star, Salman Khan, but the organisers ignored their request. However, during the event, on Tuesday evening, the kids became adamant and refused to perform on stage until Salman uncle was called to dance with them. In desperation, one of the organisers somehow got hold of Salman’s number and called him up.

A close friend of Salman said, “Salman is always doing such things. He simply stopped shooting, got into the car and rushed from his farmhouse in Panvel to entertain about 400 kids who had gathered to sing and dance on stage.”

Although Salman has been associated with the organisation, which does events for kids, he doesn’t believe in shirking work. He had initially begged off coming to Mumbai, saying it would take him many hours to reach Khar even if he stopped the shooting immediately and left. He only relented when he heard that the kids had refused to perform without him.

The friend added, “When he heard how desperate the situation was and that the kids refused to go on stage without him, Salman immediately left Panvel, leaving director Anil Sharma and the rest of the crew open-mouthed in disbelief. Salman slept in the car until he reached the venue where the kids were waiting for him. He danced on stage for a good hour and then drove back to his shoot.”

No wonder this Khan continues to be a favourite among kids.

When some destitute villagers come to the sets of Veer, wanting to talk to Salman Khan, he wondered what it was all about? These villagers apparently, were unemployed and desperately in need of help.

But Salman, who is known to be a kind man, refrained from giving them any money. Instead, he asked them if they would like to work as junior artists on the sets. They would have to don soldier uniforms and act in the film. Both of them got Rs 1000 for a day's work as per the rates of the Junior Artists Association.

Salman also gave away saris, shoes, and clothes for the families of these villagers. Bless his soul!

A little birdie tells us that while contacted for his reactions, he told reporters that he feels complete whenever he helps others in need. Now that's what we can a true gentleman.

Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan's bada dil was on display on the sets of a promotional shoot for Veer. The actor helped out a woman in need and even gave her a listening ear.

Salman sat with a middle-aged woman who insisted on meeting him while he was shooting at Mehboob Studios. He spent time talking to her for over an hour and even gave her Rs 1 lakh when he heard she needed the money.

Reveals a unit member, "Recently, a woman in a wheelchair waited outside Salman's vanity van while he was doing the promotions for Veer at Mehboob studios. She refused to budge till she met Salman. He was taking time as he had just cut his hair and had to wear hair extensions for the promotions.

We tried to keep the lady away but the next thing we knew, he came out of his van he went over to her to sit with her. That way, Salman is unpredictable. He kept everything he was doing on hold to spend time with her."

Initially, the woman just wanted to vent all her personal issues. "She had heard that Salman had a kind heart so she told him how things in her life had gone wrong and why. The actor sat and listened to her grievances quietly without complaint. In between, he'd break it to give her some advice or laugh along at something she said. Everyone was amazed how the usually hot-tempered Salman patiently handled the lady and sorted out her problems.

Producer Vijay Galani says, "I was there when this happened. The lady refused to leave till she met Salman and waited outside his van patiently for hours. She was in a wheelchair and we didn't want to be rude to her.

She waited till Salman was done. When he heard what happened he immediately went over to talk to her. He was not just kind but also lent her a patient ear. He also gave her money when he heard she was in dire straits."
