The Khans of Bollywood are doubtlessly secular but none can match Salman Khan when it comes to showing his zeal and zest for celebrating different festivals. Every year, the entire Khandaan does the Ganpati puja with devotion on Ganeshotsava, which begins on Sunday. Eid, Diwali and Christmas are celebrated with equal fervour at Khan’s Bandra residence.

In fact, Salman’s family is one of the most diverse and secular families in the industry. His father Salim Khan’s first wife Salma is a Maharashtrian Brahmin, while the second wife, Helen, is a catholic. Brother Arbaaz Khan is married to Malaika Arora who is half Hindu, half Catholic. Sister Alvira is married to Atul Agnihotri. Salman himself is dating Katrina Kaif, who has a Muslim father and a catholic mother.

Reports say this year as well, Salman and his family plan to celebrate the Ganpati festival and do the idol immersion at the Bandra coast. Not even a fatwa issued against Salman by a maulvi last year (for idol worship) has deterred the family from celebrating the festival. A fatwa was issued against Salman in 2007 as well.

“What is the locus standi of these people? Who are they to question people's religious beliefs? Why don't they issue such a 'fatwa' against terrorists and terrorism, which is un-Islamic? The clerics are talking nonsense,” Salman’s father had expressed his outrage on a television channel after the fatwa last year.

While speaking to a news network, Salman says he believes God is one, but the ways to God are many. This secular belief of Salman is even reflected in his paintings.
